Route of Transmission

The infection routes of feline herpesvirus can be divided into contact, air and vertical transmission. Contagious infection occurs from direct contact with secretions from the eyes, mouth and nose of infected cats and is usually confined to the upper respiratory tract such as the eyes, nose and trachea. Airborne transmission is mainly through droplets from a sneeze and spreads about one meter. The virus can penetrate deep into the lungs and cause interstitial pneumonia.
