Heartworm, a parasitic strongylodes, can enter the heart and pulmonary artery system, damage the heart, lung blood vessels and tissues, greatly affecting the health of pets. Therefore, reliable and effective detection plays a positive guiding role in prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
This product adopts fluorescence immunochromatography to detect CHW antigen in serum and plasma. Basic principle: There are T and C lines on the nitrate fiber membrane respectively, and the T line is coated with antibody a that specifically recognizes CHW antigen. The binding pad is sprayed with another fluorescent nanomaterial labeled antibody b, which can specifically recognize CHW. The target detection object in the sample first binds to the nanomaterial labeled antibody b to form a complex, and then goes to the upper chromatography. The complex binds to the T-line antibody A to form a sandwich structure. The strength of the signal was positively correlated with the CHW antigen concentration in the sample.
Dirofilaria immitis is a parasitic strongylodes worm commonly found in mosquitoes. Dogs are the primary and ultimate host of the disease, but cats and other wild carnivores can also be infected. Animals other than dogs, cats, foxes and ferrets are considered unsuitable hosts, and heartworms will die before reaching adulthood after infection. Heartworm infections are found throughout the world and are most common in tropical and subtropical regions. Taiwan's climate is hot and humid, there are mosquitoes all year round, and it is a highly prevalent area for heartworm. According to a 2017 study, the prevalence of heartworm in dogs in Taiwan is as high as 22.8%.
Heartworm disease is a chronic and progressive disease. At the beginning of infection, most dogs will not show any clinical symptoms, and a few will have a slight cough. With the increase of infection time, the affected dogs will gradually develop wheezing, exercise intolerance, mental appetite loss, weight loss and other symptoms. In severe cases, there are symptoms of cardiopulmonary dysfunction such as dyspnea, abdominal enlargement, cyanosis, fainting and even shock.
With the severity of symptoms, appropriate restriction of movement conditions is required. Antibiotics are given to kill bacteria that live in symbiosis with the parasite, and the treatment process is milder, but it does not guarantee that all the insects will be killed, and the treatment time is longer. Intramuscular injection of insecticide can effectively and promptly kill bugs, but dead bugs can cause severe allergic reactions or embolism, which can cause sudden death in dogs. Therefore, treatment is often combined with medication to prevent blood clots and prevent allergies. Finally, the bug can be surgically removed, but because the dog's circulation, liver and kidney may not be good, it will also increase the risk of surgery.
